Q4 2021 overview of payment institution sector

Payment institutions operating in Estonia mediated payments of 171 million euros in the fourth quarter of 2021. The turnover of domestic payments was up 17% on the third quarter and the number was up 12%.

There were seven investment firms operating in Estonia at the end of the fourth quarter. The assets of the sector increased by 23% to 121 million euros, which is the highest figure ever seen.

The two life insurers received 88 million euros in insurance premiums in the fourth quarter, which was 24% more than in the previous quarter. It was the largest ever volume of premiums in one quarter.

The volume of pension funds started to grow again after the payouts from the second pillar pension funds, and the growth in assets in the fourth quarter was 5.8%.

The rapid growth in the Estonian economy in the fourth quarter of 2021 of 8.6% over the quarter and 8.3% over the year was also reflected in the figures for the banking sector.
