Q3 2022 overview of payment institution sector

Payment institutions operating in Estonia made clients’ payments of 167 million euros in the third quarter of 2022. The turnover of domestic payments was up 15% on the second quarter and the number was up 33%.

Q3 2022 overview of non-bank creditors and credit intermediaries

In the third quarter of 2022 there were 55 creditors in the market and 8 credit intermediaries. A record number of new loans were issued in the quarter, raising the number of new loan contracts to 234,000, which was 13,000 more than in the previous quarter.

Payment institutions operating in Estonia mediated payments of 149 million euros in the second quarter of 2022. The turnover of domestic payments in the sector fell by 8% from the first quarter of 2022 and the number of payments remained the same.

Q2 2022 overview of creditors sector

Lending activity by creditors increased noticeably in the second quarter. Substantially more contracts were signed than in recent years. The number of new contracts signed in the second quarter reached 220,000, having been 174,000 in the previous quarter.

There are nine investment firms operating under an authorisation issued by Finantsinspektsioon, of which four received their authorisation in 2021 or 2022.

The client assets managed by investment firms shrank by 23% in the quarter and were down 62% on the end of the year.

Q2 2022 overview of the life insurance sector

The two life insurers received 75 million euros in insurance premiums in the first quarter, which was 5% less than in the first quarter but 14% more than in the second quarter of last year. 

Q2 2022 overview of the non-life insurance sector

Estonian non-life insurers wrote 160.7 million euros in insurance premiums in the second quarter of 2022. Insurance premiums were up in volume in the second quarter by 20.2% from the same period a year earlier.
