Q1 2022 overview of the securities market

At the end of the first quarter of 2022 the shares of 18 companies were listed on the primary list of the Tallinn stock exchange and those of two companies and one listed fund were listed on the additional list. The shares of nine companies were listed on the First North alternative market. There were 14 bonds listed on the list of Baltic bonds and three on the First North list of bonds.

The market capitalisation of instruments traded on the Estonian securities market was around 5.48 billion euros, which was down 6.5% over the quarter. The five largest companies accounted for 64.6% of total market capitalisation, having been 63.9% a quarter earlier.

There were 346,711 transactions on the Estonian securities markets in the first quarter of 2022, of which 300,050 were with shares on the primary list. The rise in the number of transactions is partly due to the absence of transaction fees, the development of an investment culture, and the search for yield.

The OMX Tallinn stock market index fell by 5.5% in first quarter of 2022. The other Baltic markets saw the same trend, with OMX Riga down 10.5% and OMX Vilnius down 7.4%. The turnover of the Estonian security markets in the first quarter was 170.08 billion euros, which represents a fall of 4.6% in turnover from the fourth quarter of 2021.
